KC applauds campaigners

KC Dog Award Winners

At a time when councils nationwide are introducing dog control orders, the Kennel Club’s KC Dog Awards recognises all responsible dog owners, campaigners and general good citizens who show that if authorities and responsible dog owners work together, sensible local laws can be introduced.

Local campaigners, MPs and representatives of local authorities came from across the UK for the fourth annual KC Dog Awards ceremony today in recognition of their dog related good deeds in 2009.

The KC Dog Awards winners are campaigning for the best deal for dog walkers. Access to walking areas has also been in the national spotlight through the Marine and Coastal Access Act, and the Kennel Club is highlighting the deeds of all those who have worked tirelessly to make sure dogs and their owners have fair consideration.

Kennel Club Chairman, Ronnie Irving, said: “Each of today’s winners has gone above and beyond the call of duty to campaign for a fair deal for dog owners and promote responsible dog ownership in their local community. We thank them for helping us make a positive difference for dogs and their owners.”

The KC Dog award categories were: Campaigner of the Year Award - Winner – Southend Dog Owners Group: Local Authority Award - Winner – Chesterfield Borough Council Streetscene Team: KC Dog Recognition Award - Winner – Falkirk Council’s Green Dog Walkers and KC Dog MP Award - Winner – Andrew George MP
